“Thanks to Korea Western Power providing an environment where data could be openly accessed and tested, LOAS was able to verify the performance of the technology we developed.”

LOAS is a startup that has been developing AI-powered solutions for predictive maintenance and anomaly diagnosis in power generation facilities. The company first established its relationship with Korea Western Power after participating in the utility’s startup venture support program in 2023, where it won second place.

Seokjin Hong, who leads technology development at LOAS, successfully co-developed and demonstrated an “Autonomous Vehicle-Based Acoustic Data Collection and Abnormal Sound Detection System for Power Generation Facilities” in collaboration with Korea Western Power.

In simple terms, autonomous driving robots patrol power plants in place of humans, collecting sounds emitted from facilities and using AI to identify leak sounds and abnormal noise patterns. Hong explained, “This enables the early detection of abnormalities in power generation facilities and allows maintenance timing to be predicted,” adding, “Based on the successful field validation conducted with Korea Western Power, we were also able to supply the solution to major corporations.”

According to Hong, LOAS secured supply contracts worth approximately KRW 4 billion with major companies including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics through this solution, while also successfully attracting investments worth approximately KRW 3 billion.

He stated, “Collaboration with Korea Western Power became a major driving force for entering the highly conservative and high-barrier power generation industry,” and added, “Now, we plan to expand LOAS’s AI predictive maintenance technology, already validated in the power industry, into various industrial sectors including petrochemicals, steelmaking, semiconductors, and plants.”

He further commented, “If data from each industrial site is properly utilized, it becomes possible to diagnose facility conditions in real time while simultaneously improving industrial safety and operational efficiency,” adding, “Based on our continuous collaboration with Korea Western Power, we hope to continue creating diverse success stories in the future.”
